about

This album is the first of three (‘Pink Blues’ 2009, ‘Brave On Lady’ 2009, ‘The Beating Of Your Heart’ 2010). The project began as a cathartic release after the death of Fran’s husband John, from cancer.

The project grew and grew, and the honest, stark songs concern what many of us go through in our lives between the age of about 40 to 60. The songs concern childcare, work, divorce, first and second relationships, gender issues, bereavement and more…

Fran May had worked as a corporate photographer for over thirty years. As a creative, Fran started by writing lyrics and singing and once she realized she was synaesthetic, gradually felt confident to add production ideas to the project. Working with the brilliant Richard Newman with his 40 year experience in London music studios and as a songwriter, guitarist, author, producer and documentary-maker, together, they have produced important, quality, beautiful, ground breaking music.

There are not many songs, written about what we go through between the age of 40 to 60, by a woman of this age. This is the first time in the history of mankind, that women have become more powerful than men. American women own 85% of American wealth. Women are healthier, live longer, are educated and run their own businesses. It is also a time, after child care is over, to find time to be creative.

This is a very interesting time to be a woman!

Track Name: Men
Men

Men lingering on the edge of the town
Where the women cannot put them down
Just trying to find a piece of ground
To taste that emotion….
Smell the heat……..

Hot leather seats and engine oil
Drain me away, like last years model
Chrome in the light, just a memory
No longer angry
Stare down easy
Stare down easy
Don’t be afraid
Don’t be afraid

You overwhelmed me
Just the way you talked
I sat around and listened
To every word spoken in haste
Then I had to walk
You know I had to walk
Stare down easy
Stare down easy

Corners of dereliction
Dust on the ground
Broken glass in window panes
Feeling drowned
Stare down easy
Pursue your burden

What has happened in the the past ten years
Still waiting for the storm to clear
You know they didn’t understand
No blueprint to be a man
Walking out and coming back
Just as easy, just like that
Stare down easy
Work out your fears

Women came to call them back
Please return to the lives we had
Sadly missed, held entwined
Stop the tension, end the line
Forward ease to the future
Working out all our fees
Pursue the burden
Track Name: In The Dead Of Night
In the Dead of Night

In the dead of night
I’m on my own
Sit for hours
Waiting by the phone
The words you spoke
Have turned my heart to stone

Your brittle mind, your cold, cold heart
I didn’t see it, at the very start
I need to live,
The truth runs through my veins

A heart needs feeding to stay alive
Your words are poison that I despise
So stop your hurting
And let that boy run free

You say you’re a father, you say you care
But when he needs you
You’re not there
How can I help him?
If you won’t play your part

In the dead of night
I’m on my own
Sit for hours
Waiting by the phone

The words you spoke
Have turned my heart to stone
Your brittle mind, your cold, cold heart
I didn’t see it, at the very start
I need to live,
The truth runs through my veins
Track Name: And So Much More
And So Much More

Baby, I know it’s hard on you right now
All your friends say you’re gonna make it through some how
But I can’t see you
I can’t see you anymore
You broke my heart and so much more

Maybe you walked down the crooked mile
Though no one got too close
You lived your life in style
But I can’t see you
I can’t see you anymore
You broke my heart and so much more

Those pills the women and champagne
What ever we went through
You never did complain
But I can’t see you
I can’t see you anymore
You broke my heart and so much more

To loose love
Turns your heart to ice
To loose love
And to do it twice

The last time I saw you,
You were sitting in an opium daze
While your music played

It’s such a waste
It’s such a waste
It’s such a waste
It’s such a waste
You’re gone without a trace
Track Name: Frosty Moon
Frosty Moon

Looked out my window, the cold frosty moon
Looked out my window, the cold frosty moon
Watched the moon glow, like we used to do

Shadows of windows, across my bed
Shadows of windows, across my bed
Stared out the window, my aching head

Bars of my window, cutin’ the sky
Bars of my window, cutin’ the sky
The moon slowly movin’, you sayin’ goodbye

Always my wild bird, away you flew
Always my wild bird, away you flew
Restless while sleepin’, what shall I do?

Always a free man, never constrained
Always a free man, never constrained
Felt you’d been captured, bound up and chained

You’ve gone and left me, I feel so blue
You’ve gone and left me, I feel so blue
You’ve gone and left me, feel blue on blue

Track Name: Red Dress
Red Dress

Gonna wear my stockings, put my red dress on
Gonna wear my stockings, put my red dress on
Gonna find that man and make him change his song

When I feel this way, no man can resist
When I feel this way, no man can resist
The girl I am, you would not want to miss

I need some lovin, I like to have my fun
I need some lovin, I like to have my fun
As one begins, another one’s begun

Turn me round, hold me like you can
Turn me round, hold me like you can
You need a woman, to make you feel a man

Gonna wear my stockings, put my red dress on
Gonna wear my stockings, put my red dress on
Gonna find that man and make him change his song
Track Name: Sitting and Waiting
Sitting and Waiting

I’m sitting and waiting, for that music train
I’m sitting and waiting, for that music train
Well I feel so lonely, lover please don’t bring me pain

Its time to travel; find a brand new world to claim
Time to travel, find a brand new world to claim
For all that heartache darlin’, had to end the bitter pain

I’ll find a new man to love me every day
I’ll find a new man to love me every day
And I will love him, each and every way

I’m sitting and waiting, for that music train
I’m sitting and waiting, for that music train
Well I feel so lonely, lover please don’t bring me pain
Track Name: Standing In The Kitchen
Standing in the Kitchen

Standing in the Kitchen
With the light on the land
Suddenly I realized
I'd lost another man

Speaking words to him
That he didn't understand
I knew I'd lost the feeling
When he held me by the hand

We walked for lonely hours
And smiled the awkward smile
And I began to realize
Not a man. just a lonely child

And all my waking mornings
When I lie here in my bed
Yearning for the one man
That lies inside my head

Life is many pathways
With him just a fleeting glance
Taken by the beauty
And the wonder of the chance

Standing in the Kitchen
With the light on the land
Suddenly I realized
I'd lost another man
Track Name: You Stole My Man
You stole My Man

You stole my man

My heart hurt

I couldn’t understand

I thought we loved

I was wrong

I was confused

I hated you

I hated him

Then I realized

We were wrong

We always had been

All along….

I just tried and

Tried

I just tried and

Tried

So I thank you

I just thanked you

And walked

Away
